Why does this work for Chimera/Internet Explorer, but not OmniWeb? This has nothing to do with CSS implementation at all. You can enter your 'GameSpot Complete' information in the text boxes in the corner of the screen and press login. for instance, has a subcription service, which I am a member of. I'm constantly fluctuating from OmniWeb to Chimera to Internet Explorer, because there always seems to be sites I visit that only one of these can actually render properly. Aren't there certain elements that must be included in either? Can OmniWeb hope to compete with its 'from-scratch' innards? finally solve all the incompatibility problems, or will there always be things that it won't display properly just because it's one of those 'niche' browsers? As far as I know, many pages are designed for either Netscape (Mozilla/Gecko) or Internet Explorer. There are many, many other things that irk me, and will probably slip under the radar.ĭo we HAVE to trade speed and compatibility for UI friendliness? Brad, when OW5 finally gets released, will CSS2, etc. The layout of the preferences is too clumped up (the 'Navigation' preference icon should be broken up into three). There is this annoying gray bar underneith the Cocoa toolbar when the bookmarks bar is closed. The aqua buttons never looked right (now I know why, Brad). The browser just has a very 'skinned' UI feel, I can't explain it. Next to impossible? Jesus, that statement just makes me very pessemistic about the future of Chimera.

If the Chimera guys could get the text boxes working like a proper Mac OS X app should, that would be a mammoth incentive for me to switch.Believe me, you are not the only one to complain about the slowness and bugginess of the text boxes in Chimera. When you're entering long passages of text and have to edit quickly, these keyboard shorcuts are essential. Rather than select an entire paragraph, it selects the current line and the one line above it.

And the triple-click functionality is half-assed. Option-up and option-down aren't even implemented at all! Neither is control-up and control-down.

It stops cold when it hits an end punctuation mark. Now, hold the option key and press the left arrow. Add a few extra periods and commas in for the heck of it. Type a few sentences with proper punctuation. Shoot, Gecko/Chimera /whatever can't even move the cursor properly with the arrow keys!

That's a shame, too, because I do lots of typing through a browser and OmniWeb's text boxes are just *so* much friendlier. Even the current 'aqua' widgets in Chimera are not true aqua widgets - they just copy the pxm#s from aqua and paste them over Gecko's elements. Last I heard, it would be next to impossible to implement true cocoa text boxes in the Gecko framework. I have never experienced a problem like this in *any* app other than the Mozilla spawns. Even as I am typing this post, the text is lagging a few words behind me. So, the text box doesn't keep up with me and it *appears* to be awfully slow.
